The Lovely Rose Apothecary was born out of frustration, and a little bit of faith.
After years of investing in modern skincare promises that never quite delivered, I found myself searching for something different. My skin had weathered every trend, every formula, every clinical breakthrough the beauty industry had to offer, yet nothing seemed to listen. Perhaps you know the feeling.
So I turned not forward, but back. I immersed myself in the beauty wisdom of another era, unearthing time-honored recipes passed down through generations of women who understood the skin long before laboratories did. I retreated to my kitchen, and I began.
It started with a humble cold cream. Within two months, my cystic acne had quieted, and my skin felt, for the first time, truly at peace: soft, smooth, and restored. Encouraged by what simplicity and intention could achieve, I continued, crafting a Vanishing Cream, then a Skin Tonic, until what began as a private remedy became something worth sharing with the world.
The first jar
My very first order was for a jar of Rose Cold Cream, and it arrived far sooner than I ever expected. There was just one problem: I didn't have the rose otto to make it. So I drove an hour to an apothecary, arrived just before they closed, and went home to make that very first jar by hand.
Every jar since has been made with that same care.
A home with a history
Today, The Lovely Rose Apothecary lives in a 127-year-old building in Victor, Colorado, a small mountain town of about 400 people. Built in 1899, it was once the town's pharmacy, with doctors' offices upstairs. It feels only right that vintage beauty recipes are made here again, in a place that has been caring for people for more than a century.
Made by hand, in small batches
Every Skin Tonic, Vanishing Cream, and Cold Cream is made by hand, in small batches, from beloved recipes of the early 1900s through the 1940s, with gentle, natural ingredients chosen for the skin you have right now. No shortcuts, no harsh chemicals, and no rush.
